The Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN-CSIC) is recruiting volunteers to participate in a nutritional intervention study focusing on the bioavailability of hydroxytyrosol, a potent antioxidant from olive oil, combined with omega-3. This study is part of the competitive project ‘Cardiometabolic properties of omega-3 functionalised with hydroxytyrosol in healthy and at-risk populations’ (PID2021-125259OB-I00), funded by the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023. The research is led by Dr. Raquel Mateos, leader of the research group ‘Phytochemicals, nutrition and health’ (PHYTOCHEMICALS).

The main objective of this study is to evaluate how hydroxytyrosol is absorbed in three different formulations of an omega-3 nutraceutical. To do this, we are looking for men and women between 18 and 50 years of age, non-smokers, without chronic diseases, who are not following any pharmacological treatment or taking dietary supplements, and with two different profiles: normal values and elevated triglycerides.

Participants will receive a full report on their health status and a bonus at the end of the study. If you are interested in taking part in this research, please contact us at hydroxyomega@ictan.csic.es or call 91 549 23 00 for more information.

This is a pioneering study that may shed light on how the natural antioxidants in olive oil can improve cardiovascular health when combined with omega-3 fatty acids.

Your participation can make a difference!
