CSIC Science Week kicks off at the ICTAN

During the next two weeks the Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition will offer more than 16 different activities with more than 30 researchers and technicians involved.

As part of the activities programmed for the CSIC Science Week at the Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition, the following activities took place today:

Exploring our fascinating immune system. Sonia Gómez, Esther Nova, Ligia Esperanza Diez and Ligia Esperanza Diez addressed in an informative way questions such as: what is the immune system, how to protect it, what is the microbiota or the perspective of the consumption of authorised insects as a source of proteins for our organism, among others. This activity was enjoyed by students from Gabriel Cisneros Secondary School and Decroly School.

Nutritional value of insects: would you dare to try them? By Ligia Esperanza Díaz and Tatiana Pintado where, after explaining to the students of the Virgen de Europa School the benefits of consuming insects authorised by the European Union, they were able to try them first hand in a varied tasting of different insects combined with common foods such as guacamole or gazpacho.
